Here’s my top-secret equation for life balance: .1(X) + .4(Y) + .5(Z) = Sleep Exhaustion
Where, X = personal blogging, Y = new technology, and Z = 1/3 kids, 1/3 personal interest, and 1/3 entropy.
While this blog is still held together with virtual duct tape, I have been adjusting the above equation for summer, traveling, and planning for social media conferences like BlogHer and Blog World.
My outlook on blogging and the role social media plays in the evolving traditional (print) media industry is changing daily too. If you would have told me last year that in less than 10 months time I would have written an iPhone application, called myself a Travel Editor, and spent over 4 hours/day reading other people’s blogs, I may have balked a bit.
But BlogHer, NYC is coming and it’s time to pull out last year’s vision board and wrap my brain around a few more things. How do the rest of you promote your blogs? I’ve seen a few people create Facebook pages (over using Networked Blogs or pushing a link). I’m curious, what are your goals for your personal blogs? To improve your writing, turn a following into an empire, become an advocate for something? Or just continue to hold a column in an electronic community of vitrual friends; people who sometimes know more about you than your tangible ones.
I’m feeling the need to lay low lately, but not from being overwhelmed (or maybe it’s just summer vacation denial autonomicly numbing that part of my brain). And hopeful. Like the end of the 1/2 marathon where I knew my legs were going to hurt for a week, but then come out much stronger than before.
A lot changed since my dad died and since BlogHer, Chicago. Life is short people; keep changing the equation. After all, life is just a bunch of variables. Evolve or face the food chain.

I hear you, Julie! I don’t really know what the point of my blog is (well, more appropriately, it just changes daily). I can’t imagine attending a conference on blogging, it’d rock my little world! I just feel unable to devote myself to anything anymore!!! Crazy kids!?!
I know where there is a really quiet deck with plenty of cool drinks and soothing music to forget about daily life… You are welcome anytime!
go sista!
